The revised Hometown Heroes program income limits were just announced and now include even more homebuyers. The newly increased household income caps are listed below and will be in effect for most of 2025.
Mortgage down payment is often the primary barrier for first-time home buyers in the current market. The Hometown Heroes program is a great way for Florida first time home buyers to purchase a home with down payment assistance. The program provides up to $35,000 in state funds for down payment and closing costs for income eligible first time homeowners.
The program is a non-forgivable deferred second mortgage that is non-amortizing with 0% interest and a 30-year term. The homeowner will be required to pay off and satisfy the second mortgage in the event of a refinancing, sell or transfer of property.
To be eligible for the Hometown Heroes program, applicants must meet certain criteria including having a household income that does not exceed 140% of the area median income, completing an approved homebuyer education course, and use the property as their primary residence. All applicants (except those Veterans using a VA mortgage) must be employed by a Florida based employer. Borrowers must also be a first-time home buyer or have not owned a home in the past three years.
The program is open to all Florida residents and can be used for single-family homes, townhomes, condos, and manufactured homes on a permanent foundation. The Hometown Heroes program has already helped thousands of individuals and families achieve their dream of homeownership. Please read the complete Hometown Heroes Qualifying Guide Here.
